The painting is a beautiful and dramatic rendering of Jesus ascending into heaven, 40 days after he rose from the dead. Jesus has a golden glow, which shines down on the apostles. Look closely, and you can see a rainbow refraction around Jesus.
The etching was removed from an antique book, and watercolor was applied over the image. Colors have been enhanced digitally for the best display fidelity. Canvas reproductions are stretched over a 3/4" frame and have a black edge, which looks great hung with or without a frame.

Gustave Doré (1832–1883) was a prolific French artist and illustrator acclaimed for his significant contributions to the visual arts during the 19th century. Born in Strasbourg, Doré exhibited prodigious artistic talent from a young age, quickly rising to prominence. Renowned for his detailed and imaginative drawings, Doré's artistic brilliance found expression in collaborations with eminent authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens. However, he achieved enduring fame through his masterful illustrations for John Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost."
