About Saint Moses The Black…

Saint Moses the Black, also known as Moses the Strong, was an ascetic monk and former gang leader who lived in Egypt during the 4th century. Originally a slave of considerable size and strength, he was dismissed due to his unruly behavior. Moses then turned to a life of crime, leading a group of bandits that terrorized the Nile region. His formidable reputation was marked by his physical prowess and his ferocious leadership of the outlaw band.

A transformative encounter led Moses to seek refuge in the desert at the monastery of Scetis, where he underwent a profound conversion. Under the guidance of Saint Isidore, Moses dedicated himself to a life of repentance and asceticism. Over time, he became renowned for his humility, wisdom, and deep spiritual insight, eventually being ordained a priest. Despite his violent past, Moses became a symbol of redemption and forgiveness, known for his teachings on overcoming anger and his commitment to non-violence. His life story remains a powerful testament to the possibility of radical transformation through faith and repentance.
