About Saint Padre Pio…
Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy, was a revered Italian Catholic friar and priest known for his deep piety and mystical experiences. From a young age, Padre Pio exhibited strong religious devotion, which led him to join the Capuchin Friars at the age of 15. He was ordained as a priest in 1910 and soon after began to experience the stigmata—wounds resembling those of Christ’s crucifixion—making him the first priest in the history of the Catholic Church to bear these marks. His stigmata drew both devout followers and skeptics, prompting investigations by the Church, which ultimately recognized their authenticity.
Throughout his life, Padre Pio was known for his charitable works, profound spiritual insights, and numerous reported miracles, including healings and bilocation. He spent the majority of his ministry at the monastery of San Giovanni Rotondo, where he established the "House for the Relief of Suffering," a hospital that continues to serve the sick and needy. Canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2002, Padre Pio remains a symbol of faith, humility, and compassion, revered by millions around the world for his unwavering dedication to the service of God and humanity.
